Who

There are a number of Contributors to Zaltana which was originally created by Scott Penrose.

History

Zaltana was created by Scott Penrose in 2005 as a basis for providing a reusable set of applications that interacted on the same system with the same users and the same presentation. He found that he was always producing community sites that then required a new component (e.g. a Wiki) and would have to try and integrate a 3rd party wiki (open source is really better than reinventing the wheel) only to find that all of the CSS, Templates, Authentication system would need modifying.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had one common way of changing the look and feel of these applications and a shared authentication and directory. Thus formed the idea of Zaltana.

Scott produced the idea of Zaltana until the first real working version was produced in January 2006. By June 2006 there was a number of production sites with some of the principles mentioned above. Scott was able to sell the ideas behind Zaltana to two projects within Editure: A new look and feel project for existing code; and a new way of developing education software.
